ROOT CANAL TREATMENT · CANBERRA
Looking for root canal treatment in Barton or Canberra’s Inner South? Start with an assessment at A1 Dental Barton to discuss a damaged or infected tooth, your options and the proposed care. New patients from nearby homes and workplaces are welcome.
ASSESSMENT FIRST
A dental assessment helps establish the cause of your symptoms and whether the tooth can be restored. Root canal treatment may take more than one visit; some cases require a specialist endodontist.

Local anaesthetic is used. A dental dam isolates the tooth while the affected pulp is removed and the canals are cleaned and filled.
A filling or crown restores the tooth. Ask which restoration is needed and when to return for review.
BEFORE YOU DECIDE
For a badly damaged or infected tooth, extraction may be an alternative. Discuss the consequences and options for replacing a missing tooth. Delaying treatment can allow infection to worsen.
Complications can include recurrent infection, injury to the root, a file becoming stuck in a canal or tooth discolouration. Further treatment or extraction may be necessary. Ask about the risks specific to your tooth; its survival cannot be guaranteed.
Tell us what concerns you. Ask for the proposed treatment, comfort options and alternatives to be explained before deciding. If sedation is being considered, it requires its own suitability assessment and consent discussion.

Some discomfort can occur afterwards. Follow your individual aftercare instructions and ask about pain relief, eating and returning to work. Contact your dentist if pain persists.
Ask about assessment, imaging, root canal treatment, the final filling or crown, and any specialist referral. Confirm the planned visits, what is included and payment arrangements before proceeding.
Book an assessment to discuss your concerns and options. A booking does not establish which treatment is needed. Bring any referral information and tell the team about previous treatment.
